1) Why do people join gangs?
People join gangs for many reasons. Some join gangs to be cool or to fit in. Others join in because of peer pressure. For some it might be because of family. Either they have family involved in gang activity or they feel neglected at home and feel like being in a gang is like a family to them.
2) How many gangs are in Chicago?
There are more than 600 gangs factions in Chicago. There are about 70,000 people in gangs in Chicago. Each year the number of people in gangs increase. There are many gangs still being formed and lots of people still joining.
3) How do you get in a gang?
Older people in gangs might recruit you to join gangs. They hang around schools and look for kids either by themselves or the ones being bullied. They might offer you protection by joining them. The ways to join a gang are either by being beat in, sexed in, or by committing a crime. Beat in is being physically attacked by other members for several seconds and sexed in is having sex with all the members part of the initiation.
4) What type of gangs are there in Chicago?
There are many gangs in Chicago. Some are portrayed by their race or neighborhood. There are African American, Asian, Arabic, Female, White, and Latino or Hispanic gangs all around Chicago. These gangs are located in the north, south, east, and west side of Chicago.
5) What are the biggest gangs in Chicago?
One of the biggest gang in Chicago are the Latin Kings. Other gangs like them are Folks Nation, Spanish Cobras, and Almighty Saints. These gangs some of the big gangs in Chicago that are located throughout the city.

Do you know anyone who is or has been in a gang?
Out of 50 students at Curie high school I surveyed, 46 of them have been in contact with someone that has been or is in a gang.

To conclude, 92% of the people surveyed have been in contact with someone in a gang in Chicago.
